I am a pretty conservative person. I live by the rules, by the book, blah blah blah... BUT I am liberal too. I have friends who live lifestyles that I KNOW my parents would never approve of. I have tattoos (although they are strategically placed so they are not exposed when I am wearing clothes). I am all for self expression and freedom of speech and all of those things.... AND I am not a judgemental person. I don't pass judgement on people, ESPECIALLY people I don't know... BUT.. I have a REAL problem with this.
This is a photo of soccer player, David Beckham's chest. It was posted on Yahoo.com's sports page today. It depicts Jesus Christ and three cherubs helping him out of his tomb during the resurrection. A tattoo of Jesus on his chest isn't the problem. I have a problem with the fact that Mr. Beckham stated, on his Facebook page, that the figure of Christ is symbolic of him. That's right, the image of Christ is symbolic of Mr. Beckham. The cherubs are symbolic of his sons. This is according to Mr. Beckham. No speculation here!
Really? Jesus CHRIST? Really?
I know a LOT of people who think VERY highly of themselves. I have even been blocked by a couple of famous people on twitter because I called them out on how highly they spoke of themselves. But I don't know ANYONE who thinks that they are in ANY WAY comparable to the Lord and Savior.
I don't know Mr. Beckham, I have never met him. I have never met his wife (not that I would mind...just saying). I don't know where his head is. But anyone who gets a tattoo and states publicly that the image of Christ in the tattoo is symbolic of himself... WOW!!! If that's not ego, then I have no CLUE what ego is!
I can't imagine, I really can't get my head around that! I actually gasped out loud when I read the article on the site. I don't really have anything more to say, except this... If Mr. Beckham was going for shock value or "there's no such thing as bad press"... well I think he accomplished that VERY well.
